 Essential Information & FAQs

What is the physical fitness level required for this trip?
This is a physically demanding trip designed for active travelers. The Mount Elgon summit day involves 10-12 hours of hiking at high altitude, and the Sipi Falls hike includes steep, uneven paths.

What kind of accommodation can we expect?
Accommodation is a mix of comfort and adventure. In Jinja, you will stay in a comfortable lodge or hotel. The highlight is the wilderness camping experience at the base of Sipi Falls and on Mount Elgon. We provide quality tents and sleeping mats. The campsite at Sasa River Camp is basic, with pit latrines, reflecting the remote mountain environment.

Q5: Is previous hiking or rafting experience necessary?
No, but it is beneficial. The Mount Elgon hike is non-technical, so it is suitable for fit first-time trekkers. For rafting, complete beginners are welcome, and full safety briefings and equipment are provided. The most important factor is your overall fitness and mental preparedness for a challenge.

How is safety managed during the activities?
Safety is our top priority. We use internationally certified rafting guides and equipment. On Mount Elgon, a mandatory Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) guide and an armed ranger accompany all groups. For ziplining, all safety gear is provided, and operators adhere to strict international safety standards.

What is the best time of year to do this trip?
The best times are during the drier seasons: from June to August and December to February. These periods offer the best conditions for hiking and clearer views. It is possible to travel during the rainy seasons, but trails will be muddier, and there is a higher chance of cloud cover obscuring the views.

Are there any age restrictions for this tour?
Due to the strenuous nature of the activities, we recommend this trip for individuals aged 16 and above. All participants must be in good physical health. There is no upper age limit for very active and fit individuals.

What happens in case of a medical emergency on the mountain?
All our lead guides are trained in wilderness first aid. We have a detailed emergency evacuation plan in place. For serious emergencies, this may involve a porter-assisted evacuation to a roadhead or, in extreme cases, a helicopter medevac (which is why comprehensive travel insurance with emergency evacuation coverage is mandatory).
